The European Central Bank appears certain to raise interest rates on Thursday after eurozone inflation leapt to a record high of 4% this month.Eurostat, the EU statistics agency, said June inflation jumped from 3.7% in May on the back of surging energy and food costs. Oil, which was trading near a record of $142 a barrel in Asia today, has been a key factor. |

Oil prices have risen after emergency talks among the world's top oil powers and leading consuming nations over the weekend ended with no real resolution. US sweet, light crude for August delivery increased by $1.89 to above $136 a barrel, while London Brent crude rose $1.29 to $136.15 a barrel. |

"Super-surgeries" housing GPs and other specialists under one roof may not result in better services for patients, a leading health think tank has said. Ministers want 150 new "polyclinics" in England, offering GP appointments as well as treatments and tests normally available only in hospital.
